Miya Masaoka’s Four Moons of Pluto takes us to a beautiful, other-worldly place via a specially tuned double bass – pulsating overtones and beating harmonics are nested in a static and meditative soundscape. Valentine by Jacob Druckman delivers a cornucopia of taps, squeaks, whispers, thumps, bumps, and plucks with a timpani mallet in a theatrically tinged explosion of extended techniques.
