Wildebeest with Jeff Lederer and Mary LaRose – There’s a Yearnin’

Wildebeest Wind Quintet with Jeff Lederer and Mary LaRose performs There’s a Yearnin’

There’s a Yearnin’ shines a light on notated compositions for winds by Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy and Oliver Nelson.  This performance will mark the world premiere of a woodwind sextet by Dolphy which was found in the Library of Congress archives and will be heard here for the first time.  This work is paired with Ornette Coleman’s rarely performed “Forms and Sounds” quintets and Lederer’s own arrangements of compositions by Oliver Nelson with original lyrics by vocalist Mary LaRose.  Also included is the premiere of saxophonist/clarinetist Lederer’s own new work for winds and electronics, “Cruxifiction (not a word)” .  This performance brings Lederer and LaRose together with the Wildebeest Wind Quintet comprised of Michel Gentile(flute), Katie Scheele(oboe), Mike McGuiness(clarinet), Sara Schoenbeck(bassoon) and Nathan Koci(horn).
